| At Monday's commission meeting, commissioners voted
to send the matter of 2nd district commissioner Julia Hurley's residency
issue to district attorney Russell Johnson. Commissioners voted 9-0 to
ask Johnson to investigate and take action if necessary if he finds that
Ms. Hurley has vacated her seat by moving out of her elected district.
However, if Johnson chooses not to investigate, the matter will taken to
chancery court for a "declaratory judgment" from the judge.
Ms. Hurley was not present at the meeting. I have had more contacts about Commissioner Hurley's move than any issue we've dealt with in a long time. Ultimately, whether the DA or the judge make a decision, commissioners will have taken all actions they can to address the matter. Hopefully, we'll hear back from Johnson in a short time one way or the other. |
