Investigation in Monroe County burned car slaying shows progress

MADISONVILLE (AP) - A prosecutor says an investigation into the shooting death of a Monroe County election official whose body was found in the trunk of a burning car is now "focused in a particular direction."

Election Commission Chairman Jim Miller's body was discovered after a deputy on patrol spotted Miller's car burning off a rural road on July 17.

Assistant District Attorney Jim Stutts also said investigators will likely present their evidence to a grand jury, probably in November, before anyone is charged.

Stutts declined to comment further.

Monroe County investigators and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are not making any comment.

An autopsy showed a gunshot killed Miller.
