Hundred receive Thanksgiving baskets in Loudon County

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Volunteers unloaded 800 Thanksgiving baskets into the cars of Loudon County families Saturday who otherwise would not be able to afford a holiday meal.

Thanks to community donations totaling around $20,000, families could get vegetables, potatoes, gravy cranberry sauce, even a turkey.

The entire service is run by the Good Samaritan Center of Loudon County. First Baptist Church, Lenoir City opened up its parking lot for the event.

Volunteers said there is a need in the county -- many people fall below the poverty level.

"I can cook like I used to when all my kids were at home and I can thank the Lord for a great year and a meal. A meal," said Kathy Ingram who received a basket.

Good Sam interviewed hundred of families to make sure those who were most in need got a basket.
