Mother finds son dead in his home, sheriff confirms he was murdered

No arrests have been made, but Guider said this appeared to be an isolated incident and they don't believe there is any threat to the community.

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a murder after the sheriff said a Lenoir City mother found her son dead Tuesday morning.
 
Deputies responded to Shaw Ferry Road North after the woman called for help.
 
“At approximately 7:43 am this morning, our patrol division was dispatched by Loudon County E-911 Dispatchers to the report of a male who was found unconscious and unresponsive,” said Sheriff Tim Guider. “Once patrol deputies arrived on scene, it was quickly determined that foul play was involved and that the male was a victim of a homicide”. 
 
The sheriff identified the victim as Jacob Dean Bishop, 35, of Lenoir City.

“At this time, we are able to confirm that this is an active murder investigation. Our Criminal Investigations Division Detectives are working diligently to gather the evidence and facts from the scene,” said Sheriff Guider. 

National guardsman found dead, foul play suspected in Loudon County

Lenoir City, Tn. WVLT- A member of the Tennessee National Guard was found dead inside his home by his mother on the morning of Tuesday, October 1, according to officials with the Loudon County Sheriff's Office.
 

Investigators said an early morning call to Shaw Ferry Road North led to the discovery of Jacob Bishop, 35, of Lenoir City.

According to reports, the cause of death was ruled a murder.

Sheriff Guider said crews responded to the area after receiving calls of an unconscious man around 7:42 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“Once patrol deputies arrived on scene, it was quickly determined that foul play was involved and that the male was a victim of a homicide," Sheriff Guider said.

Investigators said Bishop was a member of the Tennessee National Guard.

Jessica Cofer, a friend of Bishop, told WVLT News, “I know that he was an amazing man and father! He was one of those guys that would give you the shirt off his back and took pride in serving his country! I have known him since we were just kids and Jacob was without a doubt one of the sweetest and funniest men you will ever meet.”

Cofer said Bishop leaves behind a son and a daughter.

Officials said his death appeared to be an isolated incident and did not appear to be random.

“At this time, we are able to confirm that this is an active murder investigation. Our Criminal Investigations Division Detectives are working diligently to gather the evidence and facts from the scene”, Sheriff Guider said.

No arrests were made as of Tuesday but investigators called their search broad. Loudon County authorities said they were following up on several leads to identify a suspect.
