Holocaust survivors share their experiences with Lenoir City students

wbir.com-Holocaust survivors taught students Lenoir City's intermediate, middle and high schools about one of the darkest periods of 20th century history.

Survivors talked about their experiences in concentration camps to the high school students. Holocaust survivor Henry Fribourg said sharing his personal story helps engage students with history in ways that textbooks can't.

"I can make it personal. You know, the things that happened to me. I was 12 when the war happened and all these things took place," explained Fribourg. "I was old enough to know what was going on - although of course I was powerless to have any effect."

Younger students learned about the Holocaust through age appropriate material. The survivors said it's important that younger and future generations learn about the atrocities that took place during the Holocaust in order to keep it from happening again.
