Here It Is

Frontal View

Representatives from MBI Engineering were present at Monday's commission meeting to give us the first look at what the new Courthouse Annex II may well look like. They presented renderings and a video of the new facility located on the land beside the Loudon Police and Fire Departments, just one block from the current Annex and two blocks from the old courthouse. The City of Loudon has indicated they would be willing to donate the property for the county's use.

County commission budget committee has approved up to seven million dollars for the Annex II. The money would be available if the full commission approves the recommended 2019-2020 county budget. No tax increase would be required for the project.

The hope is to have the new facility open for business in time for the county's 150th anniversary next year.

And more good news, the structural report is in on the old courthouse building. The report states that the old building is structurally sound and should present no special challenges to rebuild to it's pre fire condition. And as far as we know right now, insurance will cover the cost of the reconstruction.

Plans are to preserve the Courthouse as a historic facility and for it to be used as a venue for local events, meetings, weddings and celebrations. Also, areas of the old building, including it's three steel vaults will be used to store old records.

Both the old courthouse renovations and the construction of the Annex II should be getting underway soon.
