Kaci Herron in FloridaKaci Herron just completed third grade at Greenback School, but her summer will involve more than naps by the pool and watching movies.

This 11-year-old is on a mission to raise $5,000 for the Down Syndrome Awareness Group of East Tennessee, and if last year is any indication, she will do just that. This lover of all things University of Tennessee, Elvis and opera, was able to raise $3,500 last year for this cause close to her heart.

Kaci has Down syndrome. She’s participated in the Buddy Walk since she was 2, an event that was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month each October and to promote the acceptance of people with the disorder.
