GREENBACK DRUG COLLECTION EVENT SCHEDULED

Saturday, November 1, the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office will offer a Prescription Drug Collection event at Greenback First Presbyterian Church at 6790 Morganton Road in Greenback. Residents can take their expired, unneeded, or unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Drugs will be disposed of by the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit.

Pills and other solids, like patches, can be brought to the collection site, along with liquids, needles and other sharps.

Unused medications in homes create a public health and safety concern, because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused, and abused. The majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

The Sheriff’s Office offers an ongoing Drug Collection program at the Loudon County Justice Center Monday – Friday from 8 AM – 5 PM, but since it is not always convenient for residents to get to the Justice Center during these days and hours, Greenback First Presbyterian Church generously offered their location for an additional event.
