Good News, For A Change

Last year there were several stories in the media of potential problems at the old Poplar Springs landfill. This was an old landfill owned and operated by the county and cities back in the seventies and eighties.

When the problem was brought to the new commission and mayor, the decision was made to meet the problem head on. The state was asked to come in to make an evaluation of the old landfill to determine if there were problems once and for all.

The preliminary report indicates there are no serious issues other than some repairs that need to be made to the earthen cap at the old site. The official report is suppose to be released Monday (today).

The reason this is good news is that had the site required major help, it could have been a very expensive situation for all three local governments.

With so much bad news out there, it's good to hear some good news from time to time.
