Good Neighbor Shoppe makes a difference

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- We've heard about Goodwill, Salvation Army, and KARM stores selling used items, but WVLT's Alan Williams found a store making a difference in the Lenoir City community.

The Good Neighbor Shoppe was established in 2002 by Gene and Roberta Burwell while living in the Tellico Village area. The duo said they noticed a need to help others in the community, starting by a small storefront in Lenoir City.

Over the years, the storefront transitioned into a full retail shop. The store receives donations from just about anything that can be resold.

The profits? Vice President of the Good Neighbor Shoppe said all of the money is given back to the community with the exception of overhead costs to run the building.

A board assesses the donations and immediate needs of the Lenoir City area. Alan Williams found out they have given donations to causes ranging from the local crisis center to the Boys and Girls Club.

Organizers said the business is ran completely by volunteers, keeping faith in God as their focal point.
