Love/Hate

It's safe to say, we have a love/hate relationship with the Tennessee department Of transportation, TDOT.

There's no denying the new intersection of Hwy 11 and 321 is fantastic and a great improvement over the old intersection. But should it have taken twice as long as it was suppose to to complete? Same with the new bridge over the Tennessee River, but should it have taken three times as long as was suppose to? The six lanes and those odd turn lanes on 321 to Simpson Road, the jury's still out on that one. Lot of chaos along there.

A few months ago, there was a culvert collapse on Tellico Parkway, just past the dam. TDOT came in and repaired if pretty quickly. Then for some reason, they left the final resurface so rough, it would really bounce you around when you hit it. Apparently and hopefully, TDOT's temporary solution was to put up a sign to warn of the BUMP. Begs the question, in the last three months why have't they just fix the bump? As you can see, some rascal snuck in and added a note to the sign, "Fix The". I think all of us that travel the parkway share the sentiment.

While on the topic of the parkway, last year TDOT did a great job of resurfacing the parkway and adding turn lanes at most intersections. The worked mostly at night and caused very little disruption. Then when everything looked great They decided to put rumble groves on the outside white lines which made the lane about ten feet wide. Rumble groves on the center yellow line would have made since. Rumble groves on the outside white lines, no since.

Anyway, guess it's like being married to a bad spouse, you just have to take the bad with the good.

Lanes Could Have Been much wider
