Cabin Giveaway?

At the last Lenoir City council meeting, Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens, recommended the council turn over the log cabin at the park at the lake to the GFWC Lenoir City Suburbia Women's Club. Aikens stated that the club, who sponsors the annual Arts And Crafts Festival at the park, would take possession of the cabin for a lease price of $1 per year.

For more than twenty-five years, a home for a caretaker, for the park, has been provided. The caretaker was allowed to live there essentially, rent free, but took care of the custodial needs of park and facilities and provided some security measures for the park. The city paid utilities. For many years, a singlewide trailer was the caretaker home. But I think it was around 2010, the city paid to have the log cabin built to replace the aged trailer. The total cost of the cabin was around a hundred thousand dollars.

The council approved Aikens recommendation. No mention was made at the meeting if the Suburbia Women's Club would take over the security, custodial and caretaker responsibilities of the park.
