News Herald Arrest report

Georgia man involved in I-75 pursuit

A Georgia man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement responded Sunday for a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 75.

Dispatch told Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jerramie Bowen that a vehicle was heading north in the southbound lane at the 68 mile marker. Bowen approached Exit 76 and located the vehicle traveling north under the Sugarlimb Road bridge.

“I then came head-on with the vehicle and the vehicle did go around my patrol unit,” Bowen wrote in a report, noting he followed the vehicle north in the southbound lane. “The vehicle then went across the median around 80 mile marker and got off the Interstate at (Exit) 81.” Lenoir City Police Department pursued the driver on U.S. Highway 321 near Adesa.

One officer turned on his emergency equipment, but the driver, identified as Justin Evan Conklin, would not stop. Conklin traveled back to the interstate, going as fast as 90 mph.

Conklin turned off at Exit 76 and ran a stop sign before going off the road and getting stuck in mud. A Lenoir City police officer took Conklin in custody as Bowen arrived on the scene.

“I then patted the driver down and could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person,” Bowen wrote in the report.
Conklin, 24, White, Ga., was charged with evading arrest, driving under the influence, reckless driving and reckless endangerment and held on $33,500 bond.

The woman then said she was involved in a domestic incident with Selvidge earlier in the day, which deputies later learned occurred after he asked the woman to give him a ride to his brother’s house. “While en route, he pulled out a knife and started swinging it around the car and telling her that he would kill her,” Parton wrote in a report. “He also was hitting her arms and grabbing her hair while driving down the road.” Selvidge pulled out the knife when the two turned right onto Grove Street. He also punched her in the chest twice once they arrived at his brother’s house and threatened to destroy her tires with his knife, according to the report. There were marks on the woman’s right arm and chest. Parton was told Selvidge was likely at the woman’s apartment, where Selvidge was eventually located.
