Georgia couple found with kilo of meth

Two Georgia residents are facing drug charges after law enforcement found them in possession of 1,000 grams of methamphetamine.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office investigators were called Sept. 4 to help the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the 7th Judicial District Drug Task Force with a drug investigation in the county, LCSO Inv. Marty Stanley wrote in a report.

The FBI identified a vehicle as a possible transport for the drugs, which was found at a gas station near Interstate 75 in Lenoir City. FBI agents met driver Matthew Aaron Barnett and passenger Sharon Lynn Barnett at the gas pumps. LCSO Sgt. Michael Watkins released his K9, which gave a positive alert for illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle.

“Approximately one kilogram (1,000 grams) of methamphetamine in two separate bags was located inside a black bag in the back seat of the vehicle,” Stanley wrote in the report. “Digital scales, glass pipes commonly used to smoke meth, several baggies and approximately 8 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and drug ledgers were found during a search of the vehicle.”
