Funding Approved

At the last county commission meeting, commissioners voted to approve the funding for the school board to buy the First Baptist Church property . The BOE has the money in their rural debt fund to buy the property, however, it requires the commission to approve the expenditure. The vote passed 7-2 with only 2nd district commissioners, Rosemary Quillen and William Jenkins voting to oppose the approval.

Thus far, the BOE has voted to buy the property, the church voted to sell the property, the city has de-annexed the property and the county commission has voted to approve the funding for the BOE to buy the property.

Even though all these steps have been taken, the closing on the property will still be contingent on the BOE doing all due diligence on the property. If all reports come back good, the BOE hopes to close on the property by or before the end of the year.
