Fire destroys Greenback home

From Staff Reports Daily Times

A Greenback home was destroyed in a fire Tuesday night, Greenback Fire Chief Ronnie Lett said.

Greenback firefighters had help from Blount County and Friendsville Fire Departments battling the blaze at the home, which is located at 6375 Highway 411 South, just across the county line in Loudon County.

Twenty-two Greenback firefighters with eight trucks were called to the scene at 11:48 p.m., Lett said. Blount County sent three trucks and Friendsville sent one. “I got there within five minutes and there were flames coming out all the windows,” Lett said. “It was totally involved when I got there.”

The fire was under control by about 1 a.m., but authorities didn’t leave the scene until about 4 a.m.

The home had several Volkswagen cars surrounding it, which could have caused a larger fire if they got too hot, Lett said. “We kept them cool,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, Lett also said.
