Everyday Acts: Tire store raising money for 'Blue Badge Awareness Month'

(WBIR) Matlock Tire Service and Auto Repair is sponsoring a monthlong fundraiser for the East Tennessee chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.

During "Blue Badge Awareness Month" in October, Matlock will allow customers at each of its four locations to donate a dollar, and the company will match the donations up to $10,000.

The organization helps those affected by officers' deaths in the line of duty.

"I think we're not alone in this," said owner Jimmy Matlock, who also is a state Republican legislator from Lenoir City. "I see other attempts across the country, businesses like ours who just want to stand up and say, You know what, it's high time that we support law enforcement and first responders and individuals who have really put themselves in harm's way for us."

The business is also hosting a drawing for members of local law enforcement.

The prizes include free oil changes, wiper blades and even a new set of tires.
