Election Points

There weren't many contested races on the county ballots in this election. The only contested commission race was in the 7th district, Tellico Village, where eight year incumbent, Henry Cullen, (R) was being challenged by Kenneth Moore (D). Cullen won easily with 72% of the vote. Cullen 1,224, Moore 474. Cullen's motto had been, Keep Tellico Village Red. I'd say he kept it red.

Loudon County road superintendent elect, Billy Pickel, led the ticket with the highest vote total of 6,092.  That essentially makes Pickel the de facto leader of the local Republican party.

In Lenoir City, there were two contested races. School Board and City Judge. Four candidates were running for the two school board seats. Newcomer, Lacy Murray was was the top vote getter with 413 votes. Second, was Chris Clabough with 399 votes. These were the top two to win the seats. Incumbent board member, Matt Coleman finished third with 319 and Monty Ross finished fourth with 270.

We've already discussed the judges race.

Loudon held a special election for the vacant council seat after the death of Johnny James. Seven candidates were running for the one seat. John Cardwell won that race handily with 297 votes. Former Loudon City Police Chief, James Webb, came in second with 168 with Eric Newman getting third place with 123 votes.  The rest of the candidates were in double digits. John Franklin 48, Jimmy Parks 78, Jonathan Yates 81, David Williams 39.

On the state level elections, one of the big races, with local interest, was 32nd district state representative. The 32nd district includes a portion of Loudon County and most of Roane county. All five candidates were from Roane County.

New comer Monty Fritts was the winner of the two county race with 3,069 votes. His closer challenger was Teresa Kirkham with 2256 votes. The rest of the candidates finished far behind. Fritts will face Loudon County democrat Dr. Jan Hahn in the November general election. Hahn received 1,602 votes. Some may remember Hahn from 2018 when he ran against me in the August county general election.

In the election of  Tennessee State Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman 5th Senatorial Dist., I was pleased to see both incumbents were defeated soundly. Scott Smith and Amy Jones were both soundly defeated. These two made their selves extremely obnoxious before the county primary election attempting to remove and removing candidates from the ballot. Glad they're gone.

Next is the November election. Lots of information coming soon.
