News Herald Arrest Report

Drawn knife results in assault charge

A Lenoir City man was arrested Nov. 28 after pulling a knife during a domestic disturbance.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Teddy Scarborough responded to an unwanted person situation where a man could be heard yelling and cursing at the woman making the 911 call.

After speaking to the woman, Scarborough learned Christopher James McClanahan, 30, had earlier taken the woman’s vehicle without her consent despite a bond condition preventing him from being around her.

When McClanahan brought the car back around 4 a.m., he began to argue with the woman. The confrontation became physical and McClanahan shoved the woman. McClanahan then pulled out a large serrated-blade knife and threatened to cut the woman’s throat.

The woman said she tried to flee but was unable because McClanahan had taken the battery cable off her vehicle. When she was finally able to leave, McClanahan took the woman’s house keys and locked himself inside the home.

A deputy was able to get into the residence and found McClanahan hiding in the master bedroom. He was ordered to come out and placed under arrest.

McClanahan was charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and violation of bond restriction and held on $34,000 bond.
