District Attorney General Russell Johnson announced that James A. Clapham entered a guilty plea on Friday, September 27th, to the felony-murder and especially aggravated robbery of Billy Roberts from February of 2017 in Loudon County.

As a result of the plea Clapham received a life sentence for the murder charge and a 25 year sentence for the robbery. Clapham, who is in his mid-30s, will have to serve at least 51 years before he is eligible for parole.

Clapham’s co-defendant in the felony-murder, Robbie Covington, pled guilty during the middle of his jury trial on September 18th and received a life sentence as well as 60 years on the robbery charge.

ADAs Bob Edwards and Jed Bassett were the prosecutors at trial on Covington and were prepared to take Clapham to trial as well, before he pled guilty.
