County Budget Ready

After about thirty hours of meetings over the last six weeks, the Loudon County commission budget committee has approved a budget recommendation for fiscal year 2016-2017. The budget committee's recommendation will now go to the full commission for consideration next month.

The committee's recommendation does not include any major cuts or any major increases in spending. It does includes a 2% raise for all employees, a slight increase to local volunteer fire departments, new voting machines and new vehicles for the sheriff's department.

The board of education will receive a small increase in local funding from the normal growth in property tax collections.

The combined budgets of the county general and board of education will be slightly over sixty million dollars.

The next scheduled meeting will be on June 1st, when the budget committee will present their proposal to the full commission.
