Contract Extension Passed

Over the objections of a majority of county commission and a host of other concerned citizens, the Loudon County Solid Waste Commission, LCSWC, voted for a ten year extension to the landfill operation contract with Republic Services. The extension was viewed by many as making a bad contract worse.

With five years left on the current contract, it's inexplicable why the LCSWC was in such a mad rush to seal the deal. The vote was 6-1 with Pat Hunter being the only member to vote against the extention. This vote will obligate the the county, the cities the tax payers and rate payers for many many more years to a terrible contract.

County commission will explore other avenues available.
