Come On Guys

Every year at this time, county commission takes on their most important task, adopting a budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The total county budget is getting close to eighty million dollars now. Of course the largest part of that budget is for education, over forty million dollars.

All departments, including the school board, are asked to get their budgets submitted as early as possible so we can meet the statutory deadlines required by state law. The problem is, the school board hasn't yet submitted their budget. Some board members seem to be more interested in trying to can the director than getting their budget in place.

We get it, we really do, some of you don't like Director Vance anymore and are determined to get rid of him. Seems you have three options.

1. Fire the man for no cause and suffer the legal, financial consequences which will be high, but apparently there's not the money for that and there's not a majority vote for it.

2. Buy out the balance of the director's contract for a half million dollars, but apparently there's no money for that either nor is there a majority vote for it.

3. Let the director do his job and finish out the rest of his three year contract, then if there's support, don't renew the contract.

That's it, there's your options. You don't need any more investigations or any more lawyers. Enough is enough. Come on guys, it's time to get back to the work you were elected to do. It's time to get back to work to keep Loudon County schools moving forward. It's time to get your budget in.
