Charter Communications is expanding its all-digital cable TV service to its East Tennessee customers starting this week.
The upgrade for customers in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Farragut, Lenoir City, Loudon, Sweetwater, Madisonville, Tellico Village and surrounding areas is scheduled to start today.
The all-digital expansion will continue through the end of the year with customers moved to the new service on a rolling basis.
By removing old analog signals from its network and going to all-digital service, Charter will provide more than 200 high definition channels, better picture quality and faster Internet speeds, said Patti Michel, director of regional communications, south, for Charter.
Residential Internet speeds will double from 30 Mbps to 60 Mbps at no additional cost once the digital upgrade is complete, according to a news release.
Although most Charter customers already have digital set-top boxes for at least one of their TVs, they will need a box for each television in their house to access the all-digital service, Michel said.
Customers can pick up digital set-top boxes at local Charter offices, Michel said.
