BOE Suit Appealed

Back in 2017, local resident, Richard Truitt, sued the Loudon County Board Of Education for what he claimed was a violation of the state open meetings act. The board had held an informal meeting to discuss certain board policies. No public notice was given. While no votes were taken, Truitt maintained the meeting was a violation. Even though no votes were taken, the board later decided that the meeting may have not been proper and two weeks later held the meeting a second time with proper public notice.

The suit was heard in court a year and a half later, March 2019, where the court held that the board had corrected the first meeting by holding the second meeting.

Since that time \, the lawyer for Mr. Truitt, Linda Noe, has appealed the decision of the judge. Last month, Ms. Noe appealed for the third time. The original suit cost the board more than fifty thousand dollars. The additional costs for the appeals is unknown at this time.

Mr. Truitt moved out of state more than a year ago and has not attended any meetings of the board since the move.
