Body of missing angler found after boat overturned on Watts Bar Lake

LOUDON, Tenn. (WATE) — The body of a fisherman whose boat was found overturned in Watts Bar Lake was recovered Friday.

Search and rescue crews in Loudon County were searching for Jamie L. Rixie, 57, of Loudon after his boat was found overturned in Watts Bar Lake Wednesday night according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The TWRA shared that Rixie’s body was recovered around 4 p.m. on Friday downstream from the Ferry Street boat ramp near the railroad bridge. A Good Samaritan found it after it had resurfaced a half mile downstream from where his boat was first observed after the crash

The angler’s capsized aluminum boat was reported just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night. It was found in Watts Bar Lake just upstream of the Highway 11 bridge. It is not known when or where Rixie went overboard, TWRA said.

Wildlife officers say that the storm that blew through the area Wednesday night may have contributed to the incident.

TWRA says the incident is still being investigated. Officers plan to use a side scan sonar and a remote-operated vehicle Friday to try to locate Rixie.
