Loudon County body identified as missing woman, Elisha Carpenter

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Loudon County Sheriff's Office confirms a female body that was found near the Polecat Boat Dock at 10:50 p.m. Thursday night is 31-year-old Elisha Carpenter.

Justin Langley, Carpenter's ex-husband said he wants her to be remembered as "being a loving, caring mother; wonderful friend and good person."

Her 14-year-old son Trenton said, "She just really cared for me. I miss my mom. She was nice to everybody. She would let people stay over if they needed to; if they didn't have a home."

Carpenter was reported missing Friday, March 15. A preliminary report shows her cause of death as drowning. The Sheriff's Office said there were "no signs of extraordinary trauma," and no foul play is suspected.

Results from a toxicology report have not yet been returned.

Loudon County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a report of a body after a fisherman reported what he said looked like "a mannequin or dummy."

A Knox County helicopter with a high-powered light assisted in the search alongside an LCSO boat and the body was found after around two hours.

Mother of missing Lenoir City woman: 'She was found but not like we wanted to find her'

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) - A local mother is in mourning after a devastating discovery. Her daughter's body turned up in the water near Watts Bar Lake.

Friday, the Loudon County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Elisha Carpenter. She was 31. They'd been looking for her since March 15th.

Six On Your Side's Elizabeth Kuebel talked to Elisha's mom, who's still in shock.

"It's hard to accept the fact. It's like a dream. It seems like it ain't real," Lisa Ricketson, Carpenter's mom, said.

Ricketson is devastated. Her daughter's body found, nearly two weeks after she was reported missing.

"She was found but not like we wanted to find her. I was hoping she was just hiding," Ricketson said.

Loudon County investigators made the discovery Thursday night. Ricketson said she's getting through, by leaning on her faith.

"When I look at it, she's singing in the Heavenly choir now... I believe that's what gave me my peace because I know that's where she's at," said Ricketson.

And that's how this mother is remembering her daughter - as a woman of strong faith who had a way of making people laugh.

Now, she's missing Elisha's laughter, smiles and silliness.

"I love you Elisha. You're going to be greatly missed by so many people. You're so loved," she said.
