A Blount County man has been identified as the person who was killed by a falling tree in the Greenback area Wednesday.

Charles Tipton, 62, was helping a friend clear property along the 4000 block of Antioch Road East in Loudon County when he became pinned under the tree, according to Loudon County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Billy Hall.

The tree was being held up by a piece of equipment as the two men cut it into smaller pieces when a portion of the trunk came down on top of him.

Tipton, whose last known address was in Blount County, was pronounced dead at Fort Sanders Loudoun Medical Center.
