Big Booms

One Style Of Propane Cannon

For several weeks now, complaints have been pouring in about constant, big booms in the Beals Chapel, North Shore Road areas. Here's the story.

There is a large 700 acre farm that that straddles the north and south side of North Shore and runs all the way to Martel Road. The owner is 2002 CONGLETON FAMILY LIMITED PARTNERSHIP.

On a small portion of the farm, Mr. Congleton plants a section of corn and sorghum to be flooded later in the year to use as a duck hunting site. The loud booms are coming from propane cannons. The noise making devices operate automatically when set up and will fire with large explosions at preset times. Congleton has three of the cannons placed around his duck hunting site. The intention is that the loud booms will scare away the deer so they don't eat his bait crop.

The cannons are legal and Mr. Congleton can use them on his property. Unfortunately, a lot of residents are losing a lot of sleep so that Mr. Congleton can duck hunt.
