Allenbrook 4

Lenoir City Mayor Tony Aikens

It's well known by most that Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens, runs the city and council with an iron grip. But if someone had told me that he could convince six county commissioners to vote to give him more than fifty thousand dollars to pave a street inside the city limits, I would have told you, you were crazy. However, by the end of the last county commission meeting, that's exactly what he had done.

If you've already read the three previous stories on the street in the Allenbrook subdivision, you've kind of got an idea of the particulars. Aikens claims that because a former planner back in 2006, who was contracted by Lenoir City, Loudon and Loudon County, allowed a letter of credit by a bankrupt developer to expire, that somehow makes the county half responsible to pave a street, inside the Lenoir City limits, not on the county road list and never will be. This of course is absurd.

Apparently, the mayor made a good enough argument to convince a majority of the commission to hand over the money. When this happens, this will be the first time the county has ever paid to pave a street inside the limits of any of the cities. So the precedents will be set. From this day forward, any developer who decides to run out on his responsibility to complete his development, will not have to worry about it, the county will finish it for him. Any road in any city or even Tellico Village for that matter, that needs work, the county will take care of it.

This could get real expensive real fast.
