2 small earthquakes reported in East Tennessee

LOUDON, Tenn. (WATE) - Two small earthquakes were reported in East Tennessee on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first, measuring a magnitude 2.1, was reported around 1:40 p.m. near Loudon in the Tellico Lake area. The second, a 1.2 earthquake, was reported at 2:48 p.m. near Maryville.

Small earthquakes are common in East Tennessee as the area is on a small earthquake fault zone. However, most of them are so small that people don't notice them.
