147 Years

Loudon, Built 1872, Arch-Alexander Bruce, Contr- J. Wesley Clarke and Ira N. Clarke

After 147 years, it looks like the Loudon County Courthouse will be a total loss. The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical issue.

The courthouse is the oldest working courthouse in Tennessee, built in 1872. There are several offices located in the courthouse including the Circuit Court Clerk and the Clerk and Master offices. Circuit Court Clerk, Steve Harrelson, said he was able to get all his servers out of the building and the clerk and master was also able to save many documents. Circuit and Criminal court hearings are still held in the courthouse.

Arrangements will have to be made to support the offices and courts till a new facility can be built.
